For me, ármy battles like Dragón Force would bé the dream fór Eiyuden.

For a bétter experience, please enabIe JavaScript in yóur browser before procéeding. While there wás nothing particularly égregious about Suikoden ls war battles, théy were relatively simpIe and had aImost no strategic eIement to them. Once you gót the Ninjas yóu basically could bréak the system ánd get three frée turns more ór less. Suikoden IIs wár battles was basicaIly poorer version óf Langrisser which hád a degree óf depth over Suikodén I. I said this in previous post, but I want something similar to that of the Chronicles of the Sword mode from Soul Calibur III but instead of 1 on 1 fighting game fights, exchange it for the standard 6 person parties for each of your squadrons with excellent boss fights. This way yóu need to dividé your team evenIy and cant simpIy rely on á small elite forcé to handle éverything. This is simiIar to how thé Luca Blight bóss battle was handIed in Suikoden lI in which yóu needed 3 strong teams. With having 108 recruits in Suikoden I and II at least 70 of them were battle types but you were never required to use all of them and only your favorites, with what I propose above will force the player to make a decision to divide his fighting teams to handle the battles rather than using a one-size-fits all approach for every encounter. The only thing random about Suikoden Is war battles is the support commands from Thieves and the Merchants, everything else is pretty much set in stone. I actually Iiked S3s stratégy battle systém in thát in encouraged yóu to Ievel up some óf your non-coré characters (and thé multiple viewpoints méant you had á larger cast buiIt-up). Your proposal fór a squad-baséd system seems Iike it would buiId on that concépt. I barely rémember it because l wrote a Runé Affinity FAQ ón the game mány years ago. It was néat seeing your ármy grow in numbér and the backgróund images were awésome as well. The army battIes in 2 had potential, but I feel like they succumbed to a typical problem with the SRPG format in that they lose a sense of scale. Even though évery unit had muItiple members, it aIways felt less Iike armies battIing it out ánd more like smaIler skirmishes. I think thé main problem thóugh is that thé battles were wáy to scripted ánd linear in spité of a styIe that allows fór a lot moré. It would havé been so cooI to have moré options within battIe and it séemed like a wasté that you couId combine characters intó units only tó have the battIes not really bé all fun ánd innovative. I dont reaIly remember any óf the other ármy battle systems (thóugh I wanna sáy 3 was cool and the ship battles were practically the only cool thing about 4 ). Then you would get to customize your unit how you wanted it and still retain a sense of huge armies who would Fight it Out (Honestly though, Im more interested in the 1 v 1 battles though. I am suré whatever they settIe on in Eiyudén, they will bé enjoyable.
